Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Queen Nightshade is the Queen of the DarkWings, a shadowy tribe of dragons residing in the DarkWing Kingdom. They are mysterious, as they only appear at night, but are very powerful when they are able to move.

Queen Nightshade is a deceiving Queen who is sadistic, cunning, and wicked, much like most of the Queens these days. At first look, she doesn't appear all that bad, but once you get to know her, she is pretty evil. She is almost as bloodthirsty as the RazorWing Queen, Spade, and enjoys a good bloodbath here and there. Nightshade takes care of her first-born daughter, Dusk, and ignores all of her other hatchlings, even the youngest, as she is training Dusk in the ways of the night.

Queen Nightshade is allied with the MoonWings against the DesertWings and OceanWings. She and Queen Frozen are a powerful force. Nightshade often leads the two into battle, while Frozen often sends some of her own, and herself, to spy on the enemy while they are distracted.
