Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Curse Of Magecraft is a male Vampire dragon with a bitter personality. He is doomed to stay a hatchling forever, and is constantly angry about this fact. Curse of Magecraft is cynical and pessimistic, determined to prove that everything will end badly. He is rather lonely, though he pretends not to mind, brushing it off with the comment, "Friends will eventually betray you or die.".

The reason that Curse of Magecraft can't mature is a long story. One day, as a hatchling, he was not allowed to play a game with the other hatchlings. In a fit of temper, Curse of Magecraft attacked a Mint dragon hatchling mercilessly. Burnland, a Magi dragon, was able to save the Mint hatchling, but the magic he was forced to use to stop Curse of Magecraft from murdering the other hatchling was so strong that Curse of Magecraft ended up being unable to grow.

Despite being trapped as a hatchling for eternity, Curse of Magecraft continues to terrorise, bully, and torture other hatchlings whenever he can.
