Stone Dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Heavy Slate is considered lazy by other dragons of his cave. All he does is sit around, occasionally sitting up and taking slow, heavy steps, often asking other dragons to bring him food. He rarely moves, and when he does, his movements are slow and rough. Dragons have had to wait five minutes for him to just shift his position to allow a Pygmy to lie down (though no Pygmy would ever have a brain tiny enough to lay down next to a Stone Dragon). What others don't understand is that, when you're made of rock, it's a bit hard to move. Slate doesn't seem to mind, though. He's a gentle giant, and even when dragons call him lazy, he keeps his calm and gentle composure.
