Storm Dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi was named for the legendary sword of the Shinto god of the sea and storms, the "Sword of the Gathering Clouds of Heaven", later renamed the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi or "Grasscutter Sword". Unlike his curious, compassionate, and sometimes-flighty skywing dragon mate Chill Pattern, Ama is a taciturn, serious warrior of a dragon who fiercely guards the skies above Deep's Cave. He is not well-liked amongst Deep's brood of dragons, but he is for the most part very well-respected. Amongst the few who dare challenge him is Fierce Lavender, but even he is careful not to arouse the gray dragon's full wrath- though Fierce is loathe to admit it, Ama is faster, stronger, and smarter than he is, and for all that he is disliked, Fierce is disliked more.
