Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It spends its time pouncing on insects.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It is also now covered in brightly colored stripes.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sneaking into the camp of some sleeping travellers, Snowflame once came upon some weird, white powder they kept hidden in their bags. Curious like any hatchling, she stuck her nose right into the powder and took a good sniff. Everything afterwards is a bit of a blur, but Snowflame remembers the rush and excitement. She had never been that awake and hyper ever before or ever since; it almost felt as if she had some kind of superpowers.

The humans were shocked to wake up finding Snowflame, basically running amok, inside their camp. Luckily they were familiar with this kinda rush from their own youngsters, albeit they had never seen anyone taking in powdered glucose through the nose.
