Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s kind of shaky on its feet and enjoys playing in puddles.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Waterfooted is a pompous wanderer. He was estranged from his family for it just after he was frozen as a hatchling. Since he looked young he thought he should be treated and looked after for the rest of his life. He was able to hide for a while among all the other hatchlings, but he continued to demand more and more extravagant things. The full grown adults often had to go out of their way to collect food and gems to stop his tantrums. When the caretakers finally figured out he was a frozen hatchling they sent him back to his family. The family was less than impressed with his actions and promptly disowned him. So now he travels from place to place, searching for a thunder that will treat him like the prince he imagines he should be treated as. He covers himself in dirt and generally looks pathetic to win the pity of the thunder, then slowly moves into his demanding antics. He always ends up stalking off into the sunset with his nose held haughtily in the air.
