And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
A meek, timid creature, this little thing was found by the owner of an ancient lighthouse. He found her on the beach, alone and shivering, looking for all the world as if she'd just washed up on shore. Her smooth scales reminded him of the way the sea polishes the rocks, and this resulted in her name. The lighthouse operator quickly grew to love her, as did his family, for the female is gentle and kind and helpful, doing small tasks around the house. And yet... they can never quite get over the feeling that she is not of this world...
