Flamingo Wyverns are so named for their resemblance to the tropical birds with whom they often share territory. Their most striking feature is the bony black crest over their faces and snouts, larger in males, aiding both in digging up food and protection when fighting for mates. Males are duller in color than females due to their habit of wandering from nest to nest and picking from less algae-rich feeding grounds.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Though Greg Terryr looks—and even sounds, because of his last name—frightening; he really isn't. Instead, he is a gentle giant. He is kind to everyone in the group, and while this mostly results in friendship, it does just the opposite with his elder, Quin Flaminge, who considers himself the Alpha Male of the group and Greg a threat. Quin is quite vicious towards Greg, especially when Greg tries to speak to somebody like Felicity, who Quin considers "his territory."
