Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its skin is smooth and doesn’t seem to have any color to it.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Behold, seeker of the Dragon Lore, Uetor of the Albino Dragons. In addition to the disadvantages of her kindred, this specimen happened to be born in the midst of winter, left alone in a cave with another dead hatchling which must have been one of her siblings. She survived on the flesh of the cadaver but when spring came, it seemed that her body had been so emaciated that it could never grow up to the size of a normal dragon.
