Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

StormyDorsal is a sneaky Dorsal Dragon hatchling. He is mostly black, and likes to hide in the shadows. StormyDorsal's spent decades learning how to be perfectly quite, even when he runs. He can hide in the strangest places, including right behind other dragons. StormyDorsal collects information, listens in on others' conversations and loves to watch other dragons being sneaky. He's caught a couple thieving humans, and brought in adults to scare them away.
