Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Black Thorn is a worry-free dragon. She enjoys strutting her cave as well as others, opening her wings and waving them for all to see. She was frozen when she got caught in a freezing spell that was supposed to freeze a different hatchling. She knew she would be a hatchling forever, which didn't seem to affect her. Black Thorn decided that her nickname should be "Hatchie-Forever."  Though she's a calm, even-if-my-parents-and-all-my-friends-die-I'll-keep-my-cool sort of dragon, Black Thorn is a Black Dragon. She is a warrior by blood, and she's willing to fight if she has to—but "fighting's wrong, guys." When Black Thorn does fight, though, she's very good at it.
