Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Like the egg it hatched from, it is a very shiny gold.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Dragons are infamous as hoarders of treasure. Items of even the smallest worth, the tiniest golden coin; all these and more are considered priceless, and even the kindest, most generous of dragons often keep a small pile of jewels for themselves.

But Sunlust is different; for he does not desire material worth, but something far more precious.

He hoards the sun.

Painting, emblems, carvings-anything that represents this most beautiful creator of light are cherished by him. He will curl contentedly outside the moment the dawn breaks, never letting shadow separate him from that which he cherishes, and will hide inside the broken, remaining fragments of sunbeams all eve, until the sun finally vanishes. At night he is lonely, often fretting in his scattered sleep, and he cannot find peace in his heart until he sees his only true treasure once more.
