Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sadistic and violent tempered, Nyx of the High Family lives within a dark cave at the edge of a plateau known as the mountain of Oulerun (located near the ocean border in the Mountains of Elgar). Though she was originally cared for as an egg by the human named Flight, Nyx was taken to be raised as one of the members of the High Family, a group of dragons that seek to rule all of Elgar. It is rare for Nyx to show affection of any kind towards others, even her fellow "family" members. However, she isn't afraid to show her admiration for Chaos, a Guardian dragon and the leader of the High Family. Nyx represents the night and it is rare to see her outside her cave during the day. She will normally only do so if ordered by Chaos, and even that is grudgingly. Nyx has a constant rivalry with her "sister" Hemera, a Swallow Tail and the High Family representation of daylight, and often Nyx will torch the area around Hemera's cave just for spite. Chaos has had to calm the rivalry several times.
