Among the most intelligent of dragons, Razorcrest Wyverns often opt to use their brains over their brawn, hunting prey in elaborate ways and avoiding confrontation through clever diversions. Such efforts are helped by their strong affiliation with the air element; highly magical, Razorcrests can manipulate the wind to distract, disorient, and disarm their opponents. Their wit pervades every aspect of their personalities, which are rather quirky and vary wildly between individuals. However, they are generally amicable toward those who seek knowledge, as they value that above all else.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nightmare's Shadow is the first ordinary dragon to travel with the Seven Guardians, if anyone raised by Nightmare's Promise can really be called that. Orphaned at a young age, she was rescued by Nightmare's Promise and has traveled with her ever since. Though generally kinder than her adoptive mother, she does sometimes take advantage of not being bound by the unofficial zyumorph code of conduct. They may be honor-bound to help even the greedy and ungrateful, but she isn't. Nightmare's Shadow has an exceptional thirst for knowledge, and will always stop by the equivalent of the local library while out on supply runs. She has a better opinion of humans than some of the other guardians do, because humans are—at least in that part of Valkemare—well ahead of dragons in terms of information storage. If the Seven Guardians ever make it close enough to Galsreim for her to hear about the Goldenmage Assembly, they may find that her loyalty to her adoptive family only goes so far.
