This hatchling could hardly be considered cute.

And look! It has grown wings! At least it isn’t quite as naked-looking anymore.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Commonly referred to as "Scavenger", this little dragon is what most would think of as the "creepy child", even among the Halloween dragons. When the adult Black Marrows find a rotting carcass, she enjoys taking away the head of the unlucky animal and hiding inside of the skull, slowly taking her time eating away at the bone. Even if she's not chomping down on her grisly find, she'll just stare out of one of the eye sockets eerily before poking back inside. It's no wonder that the only adults who would even consider taking her in are her own kind!
