Ochredrakes are a curious species with a wide array of mutations and interesting behaviors. Not as intelligent as normal dragons, they only breed with other drake species. While they may not be bright, ochredrakes are flamboyant and fun-loving with amazing, chirping voices to sing with, and tame readily in the presence of a gentle hand.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Fierce Rotation or 'Rotation' as Kaoru calls him, was Kao's first Ochredrake. Being new to the art of dragon raising, Kaoru had no idea what she was getting into when she picked up the pretty sandy colored egg. She finally went to read about them, and was disappointed to find out that her dragon was a 'Drake', and could only breed with other Drakes.

However, when he hatched, her whole view of Rotation changed: she came to love Ochredrakes. Kaoru tried to make him a gentleman young Drake, but was repeatedly given only hyperactive love in return. Rotation really liked Kaoru as an owner, but had too much energy to concentrate on learning. Kaoru finally gave up teaching him manners and taught him flight tricks, which he enjoyed much more. He is leader of the five 'Fierce Dudes' (all Ochredrakes) of Kao's Cave.
