Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Behold, seeker of the dragon lore, Tovo of the Black dragons. Fate has been more than hard on this little specimen as it not only suffers from the frozen hatchling syndrome but could not even grow wings before maturation stopped forever. Tovo was found wandering all by itself through the night by  an officer keeping night watch outside the city gates. Although the city had often been attacked by dragons in the past, the officer took pity on the baby dragon which came to him quite longingly. He took it home with him after his shift, not exactly sure what to do with it. When after a few months the dragon had not changed in any way, he decided to show him to a learned man who immediately realized what the little hatchling was suffering from. There is no known cure for the syndrome and so the hatchling stayed with the officer, regularly accompanying him on his watches. Its name, by the way, is a reference to the screech it produces.
