Valentine eggs are only seen once a year. Adults’ mating seasons are very short, usually spanning a few weeks in the mid-to-late winter. These dragons were once reputed to be omens of good luck in love.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Iva is a Valentine dragon. Iva previously followed Allure, due to the scent of his fins. Iva was very unhappy with her lot, and Allure's brother-of-spirit, Ivan, took pity on her decided to help her. Guiding her to a Pink dragon named Valentino, he broke Allure's hold over her. Iva remains shy and reserved, and rarely talks to dragons other than her new mate. The only exception is her sister-of-spirit Rosetta, who is Iva's exact opposite. Rosetta tries to help Iva become social, but Iva does not respond well. Iva and Valentino live on Mount Hart, with all the other Valentine dragons and their mates. They rarely leave their territory, so are not often seen by humans and other clan dragons.
