Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

RoseQuartzNight is a Pink Dragon hatchling with an unique family. His mother, SilentMoonHeart, is a "Mental Mute" and cannot mentally communicate with other dragons. His father, TropicalNightLizard, is the only dragon who can fully "translate" for his mother, but is also very involved in doing so. So RoseQuartzNight has no parent to guide him a lot of time to do as he pleases. While he is cute, and can be very sweet, he's also rather selfish and can be very cruel. He can be a bit of a bully, and sometimes all of the other hatchlings in his cave will join together to protect a hatchling that RoseQuartzNight is terrorizing. The hatchlings don't harm him, but they do restrain him and explain how he cannot continue to pick on someone else. Once he has been put "back in his place" he will run off to sulk for a week or two. But he is usually a lot nicer once he returns to his cave afterward, at least for a few months.
