Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Neji-ran broke away from his birth group, becoming a lone Wyvern at a young age. Having no place to go where he would not be persecuted for being male, he spent most of his time flying. As he came over an autumn forest on his three-hundredth birthday he discovered a badly injured female Hellfire. Her name was Kate, and he believed she was the most beautiful dragon he had ever set his eyes upon. He cared for her, and in time, they had fallen in love. He often reminded her with a smile that she was the most perfect present he could have received.

They have many children together, and have never strayed from each other. However, he was devastated when their 25th child went missing from their nest. He spent years looking for her, but alas, she was gone.

With the loss of his daughter, he became quiet and no longer engages in the long flights he once enjoyed. Instead, he focuses strongly on making sure he never loses another child and treasuring every moment with his mate.
