And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Turgass likes to believe he is the best at anything and can out-do any other dragon in anything he chooses, but in reality, it's undetermined. Most hatchlings he challenges put down his offers, and the adult dragons mostly avoid him if they do not need something from him, which is little to nothing at any given time. Because of the lack of information, Turgass sums it up to everyone fearing his 'greatness', and boasts about his powers to the other few Turpentine dragons in the cave. It seems they are the only ones who will ever accept a challenge from Turgass without a second or third thought.
