This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

A rather amusing story lies behind the birth of this dragon. See, once there was a rather easily frightened White dragon. Of course, when one has such a dragon, there's bound to be someone trying to tick them off. It so happened this dragon was a young Vampire. He knew there was a Vampire egg that would hatch soon in the hatchery. So, he took the egg over to the white's nest and left it there. The white soon returned to find a hatching dragon in her nest. She became very excited, but her excitement soon drained when a dead-looking hatchling fell out of the egg.

She named the hatchling after the first thing she thought of after being prompted by a nearby Vampire, and then walked away in disgust.

Of course, she may have been right about it being dead. It hasn't moved since, so there's really no proof that it's actually alive.
