Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zelda's personality can best be described as elusive. During the day, she makes it a point to be literally invisible to both her tamer and the other dragons. Every day, she seems to pick a different spot to sleep until the night, when she suddenly rises, bursting with energy and raring to hunt. Her night vision is excellent, but it seems as though daylight hurts her eyes; one time when her tamer had taken her out and quarantined her to a hutch outside due to an infectious illness, the young dragon squealed and groaned as the daylight pierced her eyes. Fortunately, her tamer had a black blanket that she could put over the hutch to prevent daylight from shining in. Merdoc, a Guardian dragon, was tasked with watching the hutch to make sure the little hatchling was alright.
