Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nobuyuki is one of the many sons of Mamosuke and Emi. As such he is part of the noble Great Shield family, however he is also the patriarch of the Warm Shield family. His name means "Happy Truth" in Japanese. He's very close to both of his parents, who have molded him into a strong and brave dragon. He's one of the colony's protectors, guarding all those who need it. He's a very friendly dragon, and is well liked amongst the colony's denizens. He has a particular soft spot for hatchlings, and loves to play with the little ones, and tell them stories. He is mated to Sango, the love of his life. They were best friends for so long, but harbored secret love for one another. Fear kept their love in the shadows, until one day, Nobuyuki finally couldn't stand it any longer. He pulled Sango close, and whispered that he loved her. She tearfully confessed her love in return. They're best friends, and soul mates. They love each other more than anything, and they always will.
