Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It must be very shy since it keeps hiding from you.

It’s gotten slightly bigger! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little Mint Dragon was named for the Japanese word for "shyness". There actually isn't much known about this teeny Hatchling because she spends so much of her time hiding in cracks and crevices no one else can fit into. She is very polite and respectful, but very fearful. The only creatures that don't seem to frighten her are the Pygmy Dragons, whom she loves to watch zipping around. One day, she plans to ask one of the bigger, flighted Dragons for a ride, so that she can see what it would be like to have wings... but she hasn't worked up that kind of courage yet!
