Shadow Walkers are a strange breed that possess the ability to slip between the planes of reality, becoming immaterial. This allows them to hide in the shadows, either hunting from the concealment of near invisibility or evading enemies. Though they become corporeal to mate or to eat, they spend most of the rest of their lives walking in the shadows. Shadow Walkers are wary creatures, though on dark autumn evenings when the leaves fall to swirl in the chill, rain damp air, they may be seen drifting out from the shadows.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As a new arrival at the clan, Shade's task in the second invasion attempt of Papa Midnight and his Zombies was to search the battlefields for wounded dragons and "surviving" Undead and to then bring in either the healers or the Soulpeace dragons.

Shade did an admirable job, finding many lost dragons in need of assistance and helping to ease the pains until a healer arrived. That is, until she stumbled upon a pair of hatchling Zombies. The two hatchlies were far too cute in her eyes to be expunged and they were just harmless little, freshly-hatched babies—completely innocent in all the fighting. Shade brought Nikx and Mew home to live with her and her mate Homely and after some pleading on her side, he agreed to be the daddy for the two small ones.

Now Shade lives happily alongside her little family, smiling at the two hatchies' antics and keeping them a secret from the rest of the clan.
