Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Despite being the 6th to join the High Family, a group of dragons who seek to control all of the Mountains of Elgar, Chaos rules among her Family with an intelligent mind and an often cruel passion. Though raised by the human named Flight, Chaos was kidnapped as an egg and raised by the Purple dragon, Ouranos (the father-figure of the High Family). As an adult, Chaos took charge of all things related to the Family and the Posluga (dragons who serve the High Family). At first several of the other dragons in the High Family protested to Chaos' leadership (the most obvious being the Misfit pygmy named Thesis). However, after many arguments and fights, Chaos succeeded in earning the favor of the stone dragon named Tartarus, who is the first of the High Family and the dark force which drives them to their goal to rule Elgar. Though Tartarus remains the instigator, and so holds a position higher than even Chaos, it is the shield dragon who leads the High Family and Posluga in their battles.
