Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jamal has had troubled past. His parents abandoned him as an egg, and if he had not been taken in by a clan of dragon warriors he would have died never seeing the outside world. He was raised as all dragons in this clan are raised; with a firm claw. The discipline he was subjected to was fairly harsh, but not cruel. He grew into a steely fighter and a fierce supporter of the clan that saved him from a cold death inside a lonely egg. He became very adept at cloaking and disguising spells, which lead him to being chosen regularly for espionage missions against rival clans. His missions were so successful that it gained him a great deal of notoriety among his clan mates as well as his enemies. He is now nearly always addressed as "Jamal the Spy" rather than simply Jamal, except by his closest friends. Despite his notoriety among rival clans, he still manages to carry out his espionage missions successfully, even though these rivals are often specifically looking for him among the crowd.
