Coastal Waverunners spend most of their time skimming the waves along the coast, snatching up their prey from the shallow waters. They have developed markings along the leading edges of their body that help disguise them as breaking waves. When they are not hunting, they enjoy playing among sand-dunes and shallow tide-pools. These dragons live in small but noisy rookeries. Some stories say Waverunners can fly for days on end without landing.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Austratir Korshim is known to fly for long periods of time without setting down on the cliffs of her home, and her skill at diving into the waves is unmatched in her clan. Unfortunately, because of her stamina and skill, she has attracted the attention of a vengeful, evil hellfire wyvern who has made a nearby human city into his kingdom. Every time Austratir Korshim lands, the fiery tyrant is after her again, trying to court her with his shallow flattery and impressive size. Austratir Korshim isn't impressed, since she knows the real reason the tyrant is after her. The local legend of a powerful, magical gem hidden deep beneath the waves in a cavern is no secret, after all. Many others have come to Austratir Korshim's home shores searching for the legendary gemstone, but all have failed and either perished beneath the waves or left empty-handed.
