Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Gloria is chipper and upbeat almost all of the time. Her favorite time of day is mid morning, as she loves to soak in the sun's rays while sitting on a rock. She is adept at hunting insects such as dragonflies and wasps. Gloria has developed a tactic to prevent from being stung by a wasp; she pins it down, tears off its thorax just so that the stinger is detached, then eats what is left of the bug. This flighty Day Glory is easily distracted by almost anything that moves, which can sometimes get in the way of hunting.
