Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It sleeps a lot, but when it’s awake, it’s quite a handful.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

One day, this little hatchling was wandering about the forest, looking for a place to sleep for a bit. It was getting quite cold, and he really wanted to take a nap, even if it was outside his home cave. Fluffy lay down on a crispy pile of leaves and slept.

When he woke however, the world was covered in a layer of cold, wet white stuff. He wondered what this amazing substance was, but not for long, as he soon was drawn to go frolic freely in the snow. He leaped through the snow gleefully, and also made sure to roll around in it. His fur soon became matted with it though, giving him the nickname when other dragons mistook him for a walking snowball at first sight.
