Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It loves warmth, and sometimes you have to pull it away from fire to keep it from burning itself.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Kitten loves to repair things the other hatchies destroyed in their playing frenzy. When some toy gets broken the usual reaction of hatchies is either to bawl their little hearts out or to just discard the now useless thing. But Kitten picks up any piece he can find, carefully reassembling the individual pieces and melting, sewing, or gluing them together later. His hoard of repaired toys and puppets might be among the ugliest assembly of stuff in the clan, but it's also the biggest hoard among hatchlings. And he loves every piece in it.
