Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When he falls asleep, Hallownight dreams of hell. He used to rarely dream, and when he did, they were dreams of his mate, Starseer, and perhaps their many hatchlings, their happy family, a good hunt, or some other trivial flesh-pleasure. Now, Hallownight dreams of war, of fires that burnt the bones of his friends, of gnashing teeth that almost killed his mate or his grown daughter. He dreams of the tiny, fragile corpses of his hatchlings, caught by the crossfire, or, more horrifyingly, perhaps sought out. He'll never know. He wasn't there. He wasn't there to save his hatchlings, protect them from the world around him. Only two survived, hiding under the bodies of their siblings.

He can't think about the War very much. If he tried, he'd go mad, perhaps end his life, or charge back to where the usurper King Yule stole their land and they'd kill him for his solitary attempt at revenge.

But he doesn't do that. He tries to parent his hatchlings, protect them now...and he dreams of hell.
