Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It enjoys sunning itself in the morning light.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This shy Sunrise hatchling is very glad she doesn't have to grow up and fend for herself in that big scary world out there. As a Sunrise Dragon, she is closer to her mother, the Sunrise Dragon Gryning, than to her father, the Sunset Dragon Kvaellning. But she looks up to her older brother, a frozen Sunset hatchling, and often forces herself to stay awake far past her bedtime to play with him or tell him stories she makes up herself (mostly about dancing pixies).
