Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Chiesal had a difficult childhood.  When he hatched he had a telepathic speech impediment that caused his thoughts to stutter.  This made it difficult for the other hatchlings to understand him.  Like all children they took the opportunity to tease and bully him, causing many a tear.  One day, one of Chiesal's hatchmates had a terrible accident.  He had wandered away from the cave and was attacked by a large predator and badly hurt.  Chiesal noticed that the other hatchling was gone and was the first to find him, dying.  Using his healing powers he was able to keep the other hatchling alive until help came.  After that the other hatchlings started to give Chiesal much more respect, and he decided to stay a hatchling forever so that he could look out for all the others.  He still talks funny, but now noone cares.
