Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Often spotted sipping tea in some cozy sunlit spot, this male's outer appearance--marred with ugly scars, most in the form of double-fanged bites--usually prohibits the skittish from approaching him. But those brave or naive or young enough to walk up and ask will get a wide variety of answers. "Sharks!" "Possessed squirrels!" "My mother in law!" While such responses tend to pull giggles from the innocent, those familiar with the darker things in life often demand a fuller answer, and receive it. Like his father and forefathers before him, this dragon is a vampire hunter, seeking out nests of the cruel undead and eliminating them at great risk to himself. Unlike his father, however (but much like his grandfathers), the gold shows mercy to those vampires who have chosen to subsist on animal blood or willing donations rather than stolen life--a choice that sometimes puts him at odds with his otherwise affectionate father.
