Ochredrakes are a curious species with a wide array of mutations and interesting behaviors. Not as intelligent as normal dragons, they only breed with other drake species. While they may not be bright, ochredrakes are flamboyant and fun-loving with amazing, chirping voices to sing with, and tame readily in the presence of a gentle hand.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Rhyfud is Sporishar's hapless assistant, serving as unwilling test subject for whatever new invention the magi scientist has developed.  The inventions always backfire, usually spectacularly, and poor Rhyfud has been set on fire, blown up, shrunk, squashed, and attacked by clockwork rabbits, to name just a few of the many indignities he's suffered.  After years of being Sporishar's lab rat, Rhyfud is little more than a bundle of nerves, expressing his fear and nervousness with a characteristic meeping sound.  Why he doesn't quit remains a mystery—it could be that he's too loyal to leave, it could be that he's not bright enough to realize leaving is an option, or it could even be that he's unwilling to give up his one chance at stardom.  On the rare occasions when Rhyfud isn't serving as Sporishar's assistant, he helps Nydel with various simple behind-the-scenes tasks.
