Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It seems rather lazy.

And look! It’s gotten much larger and grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Obsessed with rainbows, this tiny hatchling often insists that he is, himself, the descendant of one. While this has led to no shortage of scoffing from elders and know-it-alls, those who actually bother to investigate the little beast's claim find out it's true in its own way; while he's of course not really born of a rainbow, his family tree quite resembles one!
