Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.
A little inbreeding never hurt nobody, and this dragon's the proof! Sure, she walks into walls every now and then, and spends most of her time staring confusedly at her foot, but those are just her personality quirks. When not running into things or deeply contemplating her toenails, she can often be seen begging for fish from her parents.
