Hellfire Wyverns are so named for their foul tempers and fiery visages. Their social structure places all females above all males, due to superior physical characteristics and violent dispositions. Forced subservience of the males causes them to become vicious, petty, antisocial, and passive-aggressive compared to the aggressive and social females. However, orphaned hatchlings raised by foster parents of another species can develop surprisingly even tempers and mellow dispositions, proving that their defining unpleasant nature is, in fact, a learned behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Deep with in the Mountains of Elgar, raised by a dragon guardian named Flight, lurks the Hellfire dragon, Cavyree. As a hatchling, Cavyree was given to Flight by Ember Nuria, Flight's friend and fellow dragon guardian who lives in the tallest Mountain of Elgar. Flight raised the hatchling in her home, a large cave near the Lake of Elgar. Cavyree grew up as the only hatchling in Flight's care, and Flight gave the Hellfire all her attention. Yet, despite Flight's love, Cavyree's cruel personality began to shine forth. As a maturing hatchling, Cavyree made it clear that she hated everyone and everything around her, save for Flight, who the Hellfire only has a resentful relationship with. Always aggressive, Cavyree got into fights with her sibling dragons constantly; she still does if she sees any other dragons near her cave. Cavyree now lives in the deepest cave she could find within the Mountains of Elgar, where she feels the most at home despite her hostile nature.
