Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Rad Stripes lacks the size and heftiness (despite their natural elegance) of a normal Striped dragon.  This is entirely linked to his obsession with egg-painting; while out hunting insects will often get distracted by bright flowers and plants, which he gathers and stores in a large and ungainly plant-fiber bag attached to his back.  Crushing and milling them for pigments later on at the home cave, Rad creates intense paints and inks which he uses to decorate old eggshells and, if a mother-dragon allows, the shells of unhatched babies.  This is a cause of nuisance rather than beauty with the other dragons, as his preferred form of art is to paint an egg with the colours and markings from a different species, occasionally causing much confusion and tenseness with the resident mothers and care-givers.  Rad is usually considered snide and off-putting because of his attitude towards those who 'don't understand' his beautiful albeit slightly misplaced artistic talent.
