Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Tiny Black Fly decided to always stay a hatchling. The clan mother, Crazy, instilled a fear of the outside world on her, insisting that she was hated by her parents because she was abandoned as an egg. Although this information is probably false, Tiny Black Fly trusts every word Crazy says no matter what—she DID save her from dying alone as an egg. Thus, she lives happily as a child dragon forever, never becoming an adult that may become hateful to her own children. Her main job is as a night-time spy for the clan, visiting rival and neighboring clans to make sure her clan is safe and ready for any possible invasion from the others. Being black and so very small, Tiny Black Fly can accomplish that job extremely well without anyone but Crazy ever knowing.
