Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

GoldenRaFeHBoy is a cute little Golden Wyvern hatchling. He's a bit ungainly, walking around with his stunted arms that will soon grow into wings. But even if he falls down a lot, GoldenRaFeHBoy is a happy little guy. He loves his parents and his hatchling friends. If it weren't for bullies like GoldenSunburst, GoldenRaFeHBoy's life would be perfect. As it is, he tries his best to stay as far away from his bully as possible.
