Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Countess is an enigmatic dragon, not seen much by any of the other dragons save her mate, the Count, and the other vampire dragons. She lives in the ruins of a vast, dragon-built castle. Some say that the castle was from the time before she was a vampire, from when she was a living dragon, and that she was the last inhabitant of the castle before darkness befell her and his family. Other say that she and her brethren were the ones who caused the ruin of the castle, murdering the previous owners and making it their own.

How she came to the castle matters not, for now the only matter is that she holds the castle and the lands around it; and being that she and her mate are very powerful, it is quite likely that they will hold the lands for until the castle turns to dust.
