Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

To the surprise of most who meet it, Mouse's Friend likes mice. When other dragon owners expressed disbelief, Mouse's Friend explained that all it took was having a few pieces of cheese on hand, and mice were no problem at all—they even allow themselves to be stroked sometimes! Mouse's Friend also wanted to mention that for best results, it's better to have some seeds and fruit as well—mice like a varied diet—but for some reason the people had left when it started to eat a piece of cheese. Mouse's Friend still isn't sure why.
