Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Herds had gathered in a new valley. There were so many! Teeka's mother told her to go play with the other hatchlings while she talked with the other grown-ups. Teeka was only too happy to. She found the adults' talk boring. She and several other hatchlings were playing hide-and-seek when a storm blew in out of nowhere. Teeka had been hiding in a giant honeysuckle bush. Storms terrified her. She stayed in hiding long after the storm had passed. A hatchling named, Neeka found her there. Neeka was older, and from a different Herd. She quickly took charge. The two went back to the field where the Herds had gathered, but it was completely empty.  They stayed in the field overnight, and every little sound frightened Teeka. Two days later they were found and adopted by a Horse Dragon named, Rhiannon. Neeka became like a sister to Teeka. Though they are total opposites, they are the best of friends (despite their occasional fights).
