Script Dragons are named for the markings along their wings and sides that look almost like calligraphy. The patterns correspond to no known language, and are slightly different on every dragon. These dragons only develop the characteristic markings when they reach maturity, and they are fairly capable with magic once the patterns appear.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kanji is the only dragon within the cave system who understands human writing. Because of this, she was given the title of Council Calligrapher, tasked with writing transcripts on what each dragon said during a meeting. Personality wise, Kanji is carefree and somewhat of a trickster, often claiming that the markings on Script dragons are "a super secret language that only Script dragons can understand without going completely mad!" They only believe her due to her being the only Script around to testify.
