Paper Dragons are not truly living creatures. They are pieces of parchment enchanted by magic, and as such, are very vulnerable to fire. However, they behave almost like dragons. The only place where their behavior differs is breeding: paper dragons cannot breed.

Though technically a magical construct, most who know Hisan-ronbun would vouch for 'his' (and 'he' has made it VERY clear that 'he' is to be referred to with male pronouns, if any gender-specific ones are to be used for convenience) sentience. Perhaps the most striking oddity about is his own ability to use magic; creating little shikigami messenger spirits from his own body's paper supply, though whether he animates them using his own magic, or is actually capable of manipulating the ambient magic around him is still up for debate.
