Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This hatchling is a recruiter for the Royal Navy of Engcave. Whenever a conflict arises and sea-based dragons have to be manned with a Pygmy crew, Elvis scours fruit trees with his group of like-minded hatchlings, pressing pygmy dragons into service whose senses are muzzy due to fermented fruits. The hatchling has the best recruiting numbers in the whole county, which has gained him the nickname Elvis Press Gang.

Some pygmies try to hide in human homes, so the hatchling regularly checks those places for suitable sailors. Whoever manages to escape his clutches always remembers where he was when Elvis left the building.
