Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Maggie Shadowkit is named for her magpie tendencies—nothing shiny is safe from her, and she has small hoards hidden all over Dragonhaven Island.  Since the island was never home to humans, and since none of the dragons collect gold or jewels, her collection consists mainly of shiny rocks and bright feathers, but visiting dragons will sometimes bring coins or jewels that they hide for her to discover later.  Like her mother, Maggie is very good at lurking just out of sight, and asked to be frozen so that she'd stay small and be able to sneak around more easily.
